OPEN COMMUNITIES JOURNEYING IN FAITH, LIVING IN HOPE AND ACTING IN LOVE

Malcolm Strange

I took up my post as Rector of the Fromeside Benefice in December and I’m already enjoying the challenges the Benefice, and now our new Mission Area with Yate, provides.  This new role is a real change from my previous job as Assistant Principal of St Bede’s Catholic College in Bristol.  I loved encouraging young people who otherwise struggled to get really involved in their studies. It was a wrench to move away from education, though a decision made with conviction after much prayer.

I’m married to Jo and between us we have 4 children.  We love walking and through our holidays we’ve developed a love of Spain.  I’ve always been keen on sport of all kinds – Swindon Town FC frequently gets a mention in my sermons.  Music too is an important part of my life – most years you’ll find me at “The Vicar (or is it now the Rector?) Busks” at the Globe in Frampton Cotterell and I’ll be playing my guitar whenever I get the chance.

To sum me up, perhaps I’ll use a quotation from a friend who said that I celebrate the Eucharist like a Roman Catholic, preach with the zeal of a Methodist and minister to my flock with the openness of a liberal.

“A very good advert for the Church of England.”
